Charley crockett shared details of their upcoming studio album City of Music United States Friday with the first single “I Need Your Love”. Crockett’s tenth studio effort in six years will be available on September 17 via Davy’s son/Thirty Tigers.
“I Need Your Love” shows us a different side of Crockett as the country revivalist is joined by a swinging brass section. The track is a slow waltz that allows Crockett to hum like his Southern watchdog as the track moves forward. Meanwhile, the clip sees the re-emergence of a rotary phone, much like the one that served as a unifying plot device in the cinematic universe of its clips for the 2020s. Welcome to the hard times.
In a statement, Crockett said of City of Music United States and “I need your love”,
I like to think of my sound as “Gulf & Western”, and this number here is all gulf coast music. Something you’d hear from recording studios in Southeast Texas or South Louisiana. I had been hanging out with this song for a while, and when we went to record it, we decided at the last minute to double the length of the chorus. I felt at that point that we had something. I wanted to bring the brass back for a few songs on this album. Soul and R&B country from the deep south are part of who I am. Hope this shows through in “I Need Your Love”.
