Disney’s ‘Soul of Jazz’ Exhibition to Visit Three American Museums | Entertainment

NEW YORK – One of Disney World’s newest attractions is heading to Harlem next year.

The “Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure” exhibit, first shown as an exclusive experience at EPCOT in February, will visit three US museums next year.

Created in homage to the unique musical art form created by African Americans who fused influences from many different cultures to create jazz, the expansive exhibit will visit three jazz museums: the New Orleans Jazz Museum in New Orleans , the American Jazz Museum in Kansas City, Mo., and the National Jazz Museum in Harlem.

“Walt Disney Imagineering is delighted to bring the fascinating history of jazz to EPCOT,” said Carmen Smith, Director of Walt Disney Imagineering, at the launch of the exhibition. “Our team has been honored to work with jazz experts and institutions across the country to explore the rich history and influence of this truly American musical art form. We hope guests are as inspired by “The Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure” as our Imagineers brought this exhibit to life. “

Artifacts from renowned jazz musicians, including Louis Armstrong’s Selmer trumpet, handwritten “Jazz Jubilee” sheet music by Jelly Roll Morton (who was one of the genre’s original performers and composers) and Gene Krupa’s drumsticks ( member of influential jazz groups such as the Benny Goodman Orchestra and Tommy Dorsey’s band).

Visitors will also see two mockups of characters from the Oscar-winning 2020 Disney Pixar film “Soul” – Joe Gardner and Dorothea Williams.

There will be a virtual experience available for fans to snap a photo with Joe (voiced by Jamie Foxx) and the band. Joe shares the rich and surprising jazz history of several influential cities, including his hometown of New Orleans, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and San Juan, Puerto Rico. The more technologically advanced can test their jazz knowledge and interact with the exhibit using the Play Disney Parks mobile app.

The exhibit tour kicks off at the New Orleans Jazz Museum on Tuesday and then travels to the American Jazz Museum on December 10 in Kansas City.

During Black History Month 2022, “The Soul of Jazz: An American Adventure” will culminate at the National Jazz Museum, located on West 129th St. in Harlem.
