The beloved rap legend DMX will be the subject of a special tribute taking place during the 2021 BET Awards.
The segment honoring the life and career of the New York musician Yonkers was announced today (June 22) via a network press release. Swizz Beatz, the renowned producer and longtime friend of DMX takes care of the entire production. Veteran choreographer and director Fatima Robinson, the spirit behind some of the culture’s iconic videos like “Remember The Time” by Michael Jackson and other artists from Kendrick Lamar to Aaliyah in Sade, will serve as creative director for the segment. Artists who will perform at the tribute include Busta Rhymes, Method Man, Team Griselda and Swizz Beatz. Actor Michael K. Williams will also make a special appearance at the tribute.
The tribute segment is expected to feature DMX’s most popular songs, including “What’s My Name?”, “Slippin ‘” and “X Gon’ Give It To Ya”. It will also include a new song from the late rapper’s upcoming posthumous album, Exodus. The album title is inspired by DMX’s youngest child sharing the same name, and it will be his first album released on the Def Jam label since Large Field in 2003. The expected album also includes illustrations by photographer Jonathan Mannion.

The 2021 BET Awards will take place on Sunday, June 27 at 8:00 p.m. ET / PT.
