fortnite continues its Soundwave series with a performance by Australian singer-songwriter Tones and I. fortnite began the Soundwave series in October 2021, where artists from around the world had their music performed and promoted in-game through a series of playable shows. The first was with Egyptian performer Mohamed Hamaki, who was well received by the playerbase, and with many other artists who are expected to participate in the future.
Each performance takes players through a specific map, each designed for a specific song by community creators Team Alliance and TheBoyDilly. It’s not that different from an event held during Chapter 2 Season 7, when Easy Life happened during the Cosmic Summer event, or the Rift Tour which was hosted by Ariana Grande that same season.
The event is scheduled to go live on January 21 at 6:00 PM ET under the Soundwave Series banner in the main hub, and will repeat non-stop for 72 hours (Monday, January 24 at 6:00 PM EST), which means the players do not. must immediately jump into the game to experience the performance. After completing the event, players will also be able to receive a small souvenir for the occasion, and Soundwave Series – Tones and I Spray emote which they can use in-game. fortnite Item Shop has received two new items: a lobby track for Tones and I’s song “Cloudy Day,” and an emote based on his record-breaking single “Dance Monkey.”
Also in the Item Shop are several Icon Series-related skins and emotes, namely emotes based on several popular dances based on songs by Dua Lipa, Megan Thee Stalion, and many more. The Press Play item set, outfits and emotes based on rave and concert culture, were also added at this time.
The performance of Tones and I is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated concerts of fortnite, after the game has seen many different acts such as the Marshmallow Concert from Chapter 1 Season 7 or Travis Scott’s Astronomical Event from Chapter 2 Season 2. Featuring many songs from his upcoming album Welcome to the mental hospital filling most of the set-list, the young performer seems to have an impressive show on hand.
While most gamers tend to focus more on live events that fill from Fortnite ever-growing narrative, it’s exciting to see a new music event generate so much hype. Hopefully players will have the chance to participate and enjoy the show.
