Garden State continues to thrive, whether out of passion, determination or sheer stubbornness. Marcus’ fifteen-year career spans a wide range of styles and he was at the center of Swedish domination of club music for a decade in the 2010s. ‘Swedish Beatballs’ has electro, ‘Reverie’ and ‘Ulysses’ have energy on stage, and ‘London / 1985’ has a progressive drive. Few artists have Axtone, Armada, Size, Spinnin ‘and Anjunadeep record covers in their collection. He was a constant in the sets of Swedish House Mafia and Knife Party in the early 2010s, heavily invested in big room sound.

Matt Felner, originally from New Jersey, quit his blue collar job to pursue his passion for electronic music. He is a well-known promoter and performer who has brought emerging artists to New York and to clubs on the East Coast. He toured Marcus Schössow in 2008, and the two became close friends. We’ve come a long way in eleven years, and now we’re a much-loved duo with a debut artist album on Anjunabeats.

There shouldn’t have been a debut album on Anjunabeats, gardenstate shouldn’t have existed, and we should have stuck with our normal day job. This album is for everyone who has been told “you can’t do it”. – condition of the garden

The gardenstate sound is a mix of ’90s trance nostalgia, dark melodic techno, rush hour breaks and poignant songwriting, created on their own terms. Few acts can simultaneously sneak into the DJ sets of Kölsch, Cristoph, Tiestö and Above & Beyond. Joris Voorn’s Spectrum Records and Yotto’s Odd One Out releases nurtured an underground following, while A&B and Gabriel & Dresden’s reworks introduced them to the trance and progressive crowd.

inspirations, the album.

The first track on the album, ‘Dawn, ‘is a love letter to Marcus’ life-changing experience playing in India, co-produced with Above & Beyond’s Paavo and with the voice of Nandini Srikar. Paavo’s workshop also gave birth to ‘The comeback, ‘a collaboration with Gabriel & Dresden, Andy Moor and PROFF, and’Koski, ‘which features longtime friends SNIN and BLR. Marcus and Matt collaborate with Gjon’s Tears, who finished third in this year’s competition, on ‘Answer me‘, a redesign of the dance floor at Switzerland’s entry to Eurovision 2020. There is a strong influence of breaks throughout the album, including’1995‘, and BBC Radio 1-approved’Take me there‘with GVN, the 700th release of the Anjunabeats catalog.

Inspirations, ‘gardenstate’s debut album, is now available. In addition to their recent Group Therapy 450 live show from the Drumsheds, the boys join Above & Beyond for two sold-out Red Rocks concerts on October 21-22 and also just announced the ‘Inspirations‘tour dates, as gardenstate’s message continues to spread around the world.
