Hip-hop icon Nelly to perform at National Cherry Festival 2022


TRAVERSE CITY, MI – “If you want to go for a ride with me,” head to Northern Michigan where hip hop icon Nelly will be performing this summer.

The St. Louis Midwestern rapper is the newest addition to the 2022 National Cherry Festival lineup. Nelly will perform at the Pepsi Bayside Music Stage beginning at 6 p.m. on July 5.

“It wasn’t a ‘dilemma’ to bring Nelly back to the lineup and we’re thrilled he’s bringing his energy back,” said festival general manager Kat Paye.

Previously announced performers include R&B legends Boyz II Men, Rock and Roll Hall of Famers ZZ Top and award-winning comedian Jim Gaffigan.

Nelly is a diamond saleswoman, multi-platinum, Grammy-winning artist who burst onto the scene in 2000 thanks to his distinctive voice, eclectic beats and larger-than-life personality.

His collaboration with Florida Georgia Line has been awarded Diamond status. He is just one of seven rappers to achieve this honor.

Nelly began her musical career with Midwestern hip-hop group St. Lunatics, in 1993 and signed with Universal Records in 1999. Nelly burst into the limelight with the release of Country Grammar in 2000, spending seven weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200. .

Massive hits like “Ride Wit Me”, “Country Grammar”, and “EI” helped the album earn four Grammy nominations. Over nine million copies have been sold worldwide.

Nelly has continued to release music ever since, and while his popularity isn’t where it was at its peak, he remains a recognizable name for hip hop fans with fond memories of his heyday.

Tickets for the show will go on sale online at 9 a.m. on April 8. They are sold in three tiers: general admission for $40, reserved seating for $55, and The Deck package for $165.
