Toronto-based indie pop songwriter Jesse Northey (of Jesse and the Dandelions) has released a video for new single “Soul Seeker”.

The track is a smooth, flippant slice of ’60s-inspired psych-pop – think the best parts of early Rogue Wave – shaded with a few undertones of melancholy. The single is from his upcoming release onion knightwhich will be released this year via Victory Pool.

Speaking of “Soul Seeker” in a press release, Northey said the song is about “living for the hunt in the name of trying to experience more, and actually missing the point because you couldn’t see the big picture or having too much fun noticing any kind of damage you are causing. This is a shift towards more awareness, less destruction and the root causes of joy.

The single is accompanied by a video, directed by JS de Courcy, which features various acts of boat theft. In a press release, de Courcy said: “Nobody steals boats anymore, especially those without engines. It’s a maritime counterpoint; three movements of passion with a finale of love.”
