Santanu Hazarika has made a name for himself in the world of visual arts. His art is immediately recognizable and has a spontaneous reminder value for the brand’s affinity towards the creation of visceral fluidic images. Its monochromatic visual vocabulary is rooted in popular culture. Iconography is informed by early exposure to art forms as diverse as graphic novels, street art, science fiction, anime, video games, fantasy, dark humor, metal music. and mythology. These influences give shape and color to the experiences of his life. He is one of the best-selling artists on the NFT platform, in a record time of 37 seconds.

Winner of the first Red Bull World Doodle Art World Champion in 2014, among 32,000 participants from all over the world, ‘BLCK’ is Santanu’s very first solo exhibition that emerges as an exhibition of a phenomenon that presents a practice that is an enigma of the person who creates visual networks of personal stories, video games, popular culture and the ability to draw. It is our turn that an art form emerges from our interiors, designed and scripted by a genius image maker. Drawing heavily on Santanu’s love for monochromatic work, BLCK is set to be an iconic month-long display of black and white pieces that disrupt and challenge public perceptions.

The 29-year-old self-taught artist sees himself as a visual creator who transits seamlessly between design projects and art for the sake of art. I started my practice using the deep black tones of India ink, so when you doodle in black ink the metascape it allows is very graphic, there are no tonal qualities, you rather depend on the ability to draw, it absorbs light. BLCK is a reflection on my artistic practice, it absorbs popular culture in intertwined vines of hands, skulls, human bodies and images that reflect our minds, the chaos that descends into our bodies from the images we consume . Emotionally and violently molded, BLCK is an invitation into my world of comfortable turbulence.

Artist Curator Bina Aziz said, “Santanu is the New Age artist in the age of digital art and NFTs. When I first met Santanu, his energetic and imaginative mind fascinated me. His head was spinning with ideas and thoughts that needed to be projected. I wanted his talent to be showcased to the outside world, which was the reason for this show. BLCK will be a game-changer in the art world … the way we think about and perceive art. It promises to be a fascinating experience for all art lovers as they visit the exhibit and walk through the spirit of Santanu. He is definitely the artist to watch in 2022!

Tarana Khubchandani, Director of Art & Soul, says: “My first interaction with Santanu Hazarika, a reserved but very sympathetic and charming man, left me intrigued. As I familiarized myself with his visual language, I found myself even more intrigued by his inspiration, his muse, so to speak. Santanu’s powerful imagery comes from a mind heavily influenced by writing, music, and the graphic world of video games in which it inhabits. Art & Soul invites you to BLCK as we recreate the fascinating mental landscape of Santanu Hazarika.

Art critic Jasmine Shah Verma says, “Santanu Hazarika’s monochrome visual vocabulary is rooted in popular culture. Iconography is informed by early exposure to art forms as diverse as graphic novels, street art, science fiction, anime, video games, fantasy, dark humor, metal music. and mythology. These influences give shape and color to the experiences of his life. The 29-year-old self-taught artist sees himself as a visual creator who transits seamlessly between design projects and art for the sake of art. He says, “I can draw and I implement it everywhere.
