The Furious 5’s Scorpio and Mele Mel want a battle of Verzuz with The Sugarhill Gang

Swizz Beatz and Timbaland’s hit series Verzuz entertained fans with a wide range of artists battling face to face with their musical hits. The creators have done their best to ensure that fans of all ages can see their favorite artists perform. Viewers have made several requests for Swizz and Tim to enlist and now two hip hop pioneers are pleading to be featured on the Verzuz stage.

On Friday July 2, Scorpio from pioneer Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5 shared a letter to Swizz and Timbo asking Verzuz co-founders to consider staging a battle between his crew and The Sugarhill Gang.

“I would like to take this opportunity to say ‘thank you’ for creating another level for culture to rise and continue to create in the hip hop world as well as the music industry,” Scorpio wrote. . “The Verzuz platform will take its place in history for the work done at a time when we needed it most. “

“As one of the pioneers of hip hop, I would like to submit a proposal for your consideration on behalf of The Furious 5 with Mele Mel & Scorpio and The Sugarhill Gang. Continued success. I look forward to discussing a opportunity to be part of the platform, ”he added.

If Scorpio, Mele Mel, and the rest of The Furious 5 had the opportunity to take on The Sugarhill Gang, the bands would become Verzuz’s oldest hip hop artists. The title of the longest musical career to date belongs to the Isley Brothers who fought Earth, Wind & Fire on Easter Sunday.

In 1979, the Sugarhill Gang helped hip hop reach mainstream audiences with their contagious hit “Rapper’s Delight”. The group’s success contributed to the birth of Sugar Hill Records, which would soon become the home of Grandmaster Flash & The Furious 5’s most popular song.

Let’s see if Swizz Beatz and Timbaland can make this old school hip hop matchup happen. Check out the letter from Scorpio below:
