Tiësto surprise releases new EP ‘Together Again’: album review

Fans of the EDM community received a great gift today as Tiësto surprised gave up his new EP ‘Together again.’ Teased a few days ago on his Instagram, Tiësto with his label Musical freedom announced that the new set of songs will be released very soon. The EP consists of five unique tracks with an impressive list of collaborations. ‘Still together’ shows why Tiësto is considered by many to be a king in the industry.

Track 1: “Oohlah” – Tiësto x Lucas & Steve

There is no more perfect song to start this Tiësto EP than with “Oohlah”. In collaboration with a colleague Dutch producers Lucas & Steve, this song grabs you instantly from the second it starts. You are first struck by dark, thunderous synth chords which set the tone for what to expect for the rest of the EP. These then filter and the voices start to take over. With the lyrics “When I see you dance I’m like oohlah, oohlah, oohlah, oohlah”, the track begins to build anticipation towards the fall. Then it hits and you meet that iconic bass house sound that Tiësto has developed over the past few years. Perhaps the coolest track point on the track is towards the middle. Tiësto breaks the beat down into a hip-hop style beat, as he has done in the past with tracks like “Boom.” At the same time, the song introduces a new, more melodic and deeper voice. “Oohlah” then resumes its original tempo which opens the way until the very end. This track will most likely be one of the favorites of the entire EP, and rightly so.

Track 2: “Silver” – Tiësto, Killfake

Tiësto changes the mood a bit, with the second track of this EP with a much more house-centric melody with a fast tempo. “Money” is a fantastic contrast to the first track on the EP and continues to keep the listener engaged. Again, teaming up with another duo of producers from Amsterdam in Killfake, Tiësto continues to prove that he is a master of all subgenres. “Money” only takes 15 seconds to start the beat, and from there all systems are working. Switching between traditional vocals and rap-oriented vocals, the track constantly lets you guess what’s to come. Each drop displays new elements and is sure to continue to keep your feet moving.

Track 3: “I’ll take you high” – Tiësto

This song is arguably the most interesting track of the entire compilation. The reason is that it seems that Tiësto is giving his turn to what is called the “Future Rave” genre, the most famous created by David Guetta and Morten. The track begins soft and melodic with underlying chords accompanying an incredible male voice. Then begins the introduction of the captivating synth sound “Future Rave”. The song is one of the more aggressive tracks on the EP, and it couldn’t be better. Tiësto perfectly mixes the melodic nature of the vocals with the aggressive nature of the synths in the drop. “I’ll Take You High” is a song that many will play on major stages around the world and has the potential to be the most listened to song of this entire EP.

Track 4: “Be something” – Tiësto, Ummet Ozcan, Tomhio

When you see the names Tiësto and Ummet Ozcan together on a song, you instantly know it’s going to be special, and this time it’s no different. The two are working with young Dutch producer Tomhio to create an impressive song. “Be Something” delivers a subtle yet powerful sound. First, starting with a beautiful female voice that later collides with a transcendent chord progression on the piano below. The vocals then subside and the high-energy rhythm begins, introducing new elements with each turn. It comes across as a simple but incredibly powerful rhythm at the same time. The vocals come back later in the song and bring back the emotion from the beginning. The lyrics will make you want to close your eyes and transport yourself to another place. This track is a home run in Tiësto’s impressive catalog and a perfect collaboration with Ozcan and Tomhio.

Track 5: “Clickbait” – Tiësto

The saddest part of this track is that it means the end of the EP is near, but Tiësto made sure to come out with a bang on “Clickbait”. Just like “I’ll Take You High”, it’s another aggressive track that just seems like the closing song. During the duration of the song, elements of tracks from Tiësto’s past, such as his 2018 single “Wow,” Can be heard. The track is two minutes and 40 seconds pure energy that is sure to get you off the ground. The focal point of “Clickbait” is the two thunderous drops at the beginning and at the end that just seem to put the perfect final cachet on an amazing project from the legendary producer.

‘Still together’ proves once again that Tiësto is a master of all types of electronic music and cannot be contained in a box. Each song is a completely different journey and finds a way to contrast perfectly with the previous one. Throughout the duration of the EP, he does a tremendous job of keeping the listener involved without wasting an ounce of energy. ‘Still together’ is by far one of Tiësto’s best work and a great way to score a huge 2021 release schedule for the Netherlands-based icon.
