TWICE sets new record for fastest song by foreign artist to go platinum for streaming in Japan; BTS and BLACKPINK go gold

The Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) has announced its latest batch of official certifications!

In 2020, the RIAJ implemented a new certification system for online song streaming, complementing its pre-existing certification systems for physical album shipments and digital download sales. Under the new system, songs are certified silver once they reach 30 million streams, gold at 50 million streams and platinum at 100 million streams.

In the RIAJ’s recently announced batch of certifications (dated May 2022), TWICE, BTS, and BLACKPINK have all received new official certifications for streaming.

TWICE’s hit single “The Feels” has been officially certified platinum after surpassing 100 million streams since its release in October, making it the fastest song by any foreign female artist to receive an RIAJ platinum certification for streaming.

With this latest achievement, TWICE also became the girl group with the most RIAJ platinum certifications for streaming: “The Feels” is now their fourth song to be certified platinum after “Feel Special”, “I CAN’T STOP ME”, AND “FANTASY.”

Meanwhile, BTS’ 2017 Japanese song “Crystal Snow” and 2016’s BLACKPINK debut track “BOOMBAYAH” received official gold certifications after surpassing 50 million streams each.

Congratulations to TWICE, BTS and BLACKPINK!
